Father of Flight 752 Victim Calls Guards and Foreign Minister Criminals

The father of a victim killed in the Ukrainian Airlines flight shot down by Revolutionary Guards in January 2020 has condemned Iran’s foreign minister and a top Guards commander, calling them criminals with blood on their hands.

The father of Maryam Malek addressed his accusations to the Tehran Military Prosecutor's Office, posting a video of his anguished statements on Twitter on December 14.

In the video, Malek brands Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force, criminals. He calls for Hajizadeh, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, and the Guards’ Commander-in-Chief Hossein Salami, as well as all officials with direct responsibility for the crime, to be removed from their posts.

In an emotional appeal to the court officials, Malek expresses his anger and despair: “I bare my chest to you. I beg you to arrest and execute me because I no longer want to live since my daughter is gone."

Malek attacks officials for allowing Revolutionary Guards and other Iranian agents to be involved in the investigation into the crime, demanding to know how men whose hands are covered in blood can be put in charge of carrying out a proper investigation.

Malek's remarks are the latest in a string of attacks from family members of those who died in the tragedy.

Maryam Malek, 40, was among the 176 victims of the downed Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752. A graduate student at St Mary’s University in Canada, she had returned to visit family for two weeks between semesters.

The plane, bound for Kiev had just left Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport on January 8, 2020 when the Revolutionary Guards' air defense system shot two missiles, fired 24 seconds apart, at the plane. It crashed shortly afterwards near Shahed-Shahr, Tehran province, killing all on board.
