Murdering the Bereaved

On May 23, a 10-storey commercial building in Abadan collapsed midway through construction, burying scores of people under the rubble. The Metropol disaster came about due to developers' failure to follow safety regulations while the local authority turned a blind eye. Bereaved families and residents in Khuzestan protested en masse and were met with brutal suppression by state security forces.
