Iranian protesters flood streets across the country after the death in custody in September 2022 of a young woman who had been detained for allegedly wearing her head covering improperly. In response, the authorities have killed more than 520 protesters, unlawfully detained over 20,000 and handed down stiff sentences, including the death penalty, to demonstrators.
