In late August, the state-friendly cleric Ayatollah Nasser Makaram Shirazi issued a fatwa deeming high-speed and 3G internet as haram. President Hassan Rouhani hit back in a press conference a few days later, joking about how the dowload time of a simple article on slow speed internet was long enough to make a person fall asleep.
