Some Iranians Can’t Afford to Buy Socks for Father's Day

Iranians are so strapped for cash and badly affected by Iran’s soaring inflation and high unemployment rates that they are unable to purchase a simple gift such as socks to celebrate Father’s Day.

The vice president of the Tehran Knitwear and Socks Union announced that in previous years, people often chose socks as gifts for their fathers to celebrate the day, but as prices have risen even for the most basic of clothing items, people can no longer even afford to buy even socks as a simple gift.

Tejarat News also cited a rise in the price of fabrics and materials, rising transportation costs and reduced purchasing power for a decline in sock sales, resulting in the closure of several companies.

Sock vendors say the current economic situation appears to have turned socks into a luxury item.
