German-Iranian Woman Arrested in Iran

Nahid Taghavi, an Iranian-German dual national, was arrested at her home in Tehran on October 16. Security agents confiscated her German passport and other personal items.

The arrest was reported by her daughter Maryam Claren, who lives in Germany. She tweeted on October 23 that she has had no news of her 66-year-old mother since her arrest.

She also shared a post from the International Society for Human Rights: “66-year-old Nahid Taghavi from Cologne was arrested in Tehran on October 16. She is detained at Evin Prison and cannot be visited. We call on the federal government to work for the release of the German.”

According to a report released by security agents, Nahid Taghavi has been transferred to Evin Prison but it is not yet known why she was arrested or what the charges against her are.

Nahid Naghavi has been a resident of the German city of Cologne since 1983.

Other dual nationals currently imprisoned in Iran include Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, Fariba Adelkhah, Aras Amiri, Ahmad Reza Jalali, Siamak Namazi and his father Mohammad Baqer Namazi.
