An ominous report by the Iranian Donya-e Eqtesad newspaper has stated that a number of restaurants in Tehran have been forced to change their menus due to the economic crisis.
The paper states that many eateries in southern parts of Tehran have removed the popular Chelow kebab (a dish of steamed rice and Iranian lamb kebab) from their menus, and replaced it instead with cheaper dishes.
These variously include barberry rice with chicken bones, rice with lamb bones, and rice with tail fat.
Donya-e Eqtesad adds in its report that the most-ordered dish in these restaurants is now three portions with ghormeh sabzi, a minced herb stew. The main reason for the change, the report suggests, is a decline in restaurants’ revenues and customers’ spending power.
