Basketball player Kimia Yazdian Tehrani is leaving Iran to pursue a career in Qatar, and will play for the country’s national team in the upcoming Arab Club championships.

Yazdian Tehrani, 25, is currently a member of the Iranian women's national basketball team and plays for the Bahman Group club. She started playing basketball at the age of 10 and has played at the junior, youth and adult levels, as well as for Iran’s women three-aside team category.

She participated in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 three-a-side basketball World  Cup in the Netherlands. An all-round athlete, Yazdian Tehrani has also competed in gymnastics, karate, swimming and volleyball. She is also a professional chess player.

She will first travel to Turkey, and then on to Qatar, where she will join the national team in their excursion to Jordan for Arab Club women's basketball tournament beginning the week of September 6.

Naimeh Zafar, the team’s head coach, is the former head coach of the Iranian national youth basketball team. In addition to Kimia Yazdian Tehrani, Zafar is bringing in two other foreign players, including US player Daphnee Frieson.

Tunisia is bringing two clubs to the championship, and national teams from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan will also take part.
