The head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Qods Force, Ghasem Soleimani, returned to Tehran today, welcomed by Guards officials and the media alike. Within hours of his return, he attended a memorial for soldiers who had lost their lives in the Iran-Iraq war and spoke to journalists about the US-led coalition and its failure to adequately confront Islamic State’s insurgency in the region. In recent months, the commander has been photographed in Iraq, attending to army operations there.
