The Roof Gardens of Tehran

The rapid increase of apartment-block living meant the decline of the traditional Iranian home garden, where flowers, trees and water ponds full of goldfish were a vital part of people's lives and memories. But in Tehran, where land is 8 million tomans per square meter, most people can no longer afford to pay for nostalgic gardens. So, just as people built up to make more living space, adding penthouse suites to their small apartments, now people are creating roof gardens across the capital. Not only do plants thrive, but some of the views are spectacular.
