On March 9, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-affiliated Tasnim News Agency published a set of photos depicting soldiers from the IRGC taking part in exercises at an undisclosed mountain location. The troops, Tasnim wrote, hailed from the Saberin Special Forces and Mirza Kuchak Khan brigade (named after the leader of short-lived movement the “Persian Socialist Soviet Republic” in Gilan in the early 20th century) and were there “to learn different methods of operating in mountainous and arctic conditions”.
