Abolhassan Banisadr, the first president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, passed away in Paris on October 9 after a long illness. He was one of the closest people to Ayatollah Khomeini in the run-up to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, but fell out of favor shortly after taking office, and in the end had to flee Iran.

This collection of imagers review the life and times of a man who was once called Khomeini’s companion, but shortly afterward was accused of treason and espionage.
