On Wednesday, April 12, presidential hopefuls from around the country arrived at Iran's election headquarters at the Ministry of Interior to officially register for the 12th Presidential Election, which will take place on May 19. Among those registering to run as candidates were former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his ally and former deputy Hamid Baghaei, as well as people representing Iran's Arab minority population and female candidates.

The Guardian Council oversees the election and will soon announce whether candidates have successfully qualified or not.
