Autumn Rain in Tehran

Once upon a time — though not a very long time ago — Tehran’s weather ran like clockwork. April showers and May flowers were followed by a dry, hot summer, which in turn gave way to a colorful and rainy autumn and often heavy winter snows. But all that has changed now. Tehran, like many other places on the planet, has been hit by climate change and drought. Add to this pollution, which has been blamed for hundreds of deaths, and which occasionally forces the authorities to close schools and even government offices. So this year, when at last autumn rains arrived, residents of the Iranian capital gave a sigh of relief and happily picked up their umbrellas.
