The Islamic Republic of Iran’s first gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics – in air pistol shooting – was secured by a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who fought on behalf of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The IRGC is one of the parties chiefly responsible for the ongoing repression of the Iranian people.
