Iranian authorities have arrested prominent journalist Mehdi Beyk, adding to the dozens of media workers thrown behind bars since the eruption of nationwide protests more than three months ago.
Mehdi Beyk, the head of the political department of Etemad daily, was arrested in Tehran by Intelligence Ministry agents, his wife tweeted on January 5.

She said his mobile phone, notebook, and personal belongings were seized.
It is not immediately known what Beyk is accused of. The journalist has interviewed the families of several of those arrested in the ongoing demonstrations.
Beyk is the third journalist reported to have been taken into custody since the beginning of the year.
More than 60 journalists have been detained in the past weeks amid the Islamic Republic’s brutal crackdown on unrest sparked by the September death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini following her arrest by morality police.
Other journalists have been summoned, threatened and had their electronic equipment seized.
In December, Reporters Without Borders listed Iran as the world’s third biggest jailer of journalists after China and Myanmar, with 47 detainees.
