Iranian Teacher's Rights Activist Hamrang Re-Arrested

Prominent Iranian teacher's rights activist and former political prisoner Zeinab Hamrang has been re-arrested by security forces in Tehran, her son says.

Ehsan Seifi said his mother was detained on March 12 while she was leaving her house to go to the gym.

Judicial and security institutions did not immediately give a reason for the detention.

In a recent interview with IranWire, Seifi said he had been stopped and interrogated for hours by security forces in the northwestern city of Khoy ahead of a planned trip to Turkey.

Hamrang, a retired teacher and resident of Tehran, is an activist for the Teachers' Trade Union.

She was previously sentenced to six years in prison on charges of "gathering and colluding with the intention of disrupting the security of the country" and "propaganda against the regime."

She was released from prison in October 2022 after serving more than two years.
