Iranian forces have foiled a drone attack on a Ministry of Defense complex in the central city of Isfahan overnight, according to local media. The authorities say they could not confirm the reports.
"The Amir al-Momenin complex in Isfahan was the target of a failed attack by a small drone which was foiled by defense systems," the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on April 5.
IRNA, the state news agency, said the drone was downed before it could not cause any damage.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion.
When asked about the reports during a press conference, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said, “For now, I cannot confirm this as it needs more investigation.”
In the past, Tehran has blamed Israel for attacks on nuclear and defense facilities, including a drone attack on a Ministry of Defense industrial center near Isfahan in January. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the attacks.
The reported attack in Isfahan comes days after Israeli air strikes in Syria hit targets that killed at least two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
