The Coordinating Council of Teachers Union has condemned the "brutal killing” of a teacher and trade union activist in the south-eastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan, and urged the authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators.
Hossein Mehdipour was killed in an attack by unknown armed individuals on May 2, which coincided with Teachers’ Day in Iran, the council said on its Telegram channel on May 4.
It said Mehdipour died after sustaining severe injuries.
Mehdipour's killing is suspected to be related to his activities in the defense of teachers' rights.
Mehdipour, who managed a Telegram channel advocating teachers' rights, has been arrested for his activism.
