Iranian intelligence officers have put Amjad Amini, the father of Mahsa Amini, under house arrest on the one-year anniversary of his daughter’s death in police custody.

There is a massive presence of security forces in Saqqez, Amini’s home town, with several helicopters hovering overhead.

Amjad Amini was briefly arrested by security officers this morning immediately after he left his residence. He was taken to the Saqqez Intelligence Department, where he was informed that he was not allowed to visit his daughter’s grave or leave his residence.

He was also advised against participating in the anniversary ceremony, which he had previously said he would do in a statement.

Amini was then taken back to his residence by the chief of the Saqqez Intelligence Department, who personally instructed him that he was prohibited from leaving his home.

Amjad Amini’s house arrest is the latest incident in the escalating crackdown by Iranian authorities on the family and supporters of Mahsa Amini who want to pay their respects.

People have been trying to reach Amini’s grave in the face of obstacles created by security forces. Their determination prompted them to chart an alternative route through the villages of Khider and Hijanan towards Aichi cemetery.

A nearby dam’s gates were unexpectedly opened overnight, transforming the once-dry river into a surging body of water.
