Mahdokht Damghanpour, a lawyer who defended executed protester Mohammad Ghobadlou, was summoned to the judiciary after raising concerns about flaws in the investigation into his client's case.
According to another lawyer, Amir Raisian, Damghanpour submitted relevant documents to the Media Prosecutor's Office after being summoned.
"We invited the judiciary to a public debate, but they chose a trial in the media courtroom instead," Raisian said.
Damghanpour had spoken to the Didban Iran website, criticizing the numerous flaws in her client's case and declaring that "law and Sharia were disregarded in Ghobadlou’s execution."
Raisian has consistently maintained that the execution was illegal, as it occurred before the Supreme Court finished reviewing his client's retrial case.
Ghobadlou was arrested during protests in the city of Parand and executed on January 23 for allegedly running over and killing a special unit agent.
Both his mother and lawyers said he suffered from bipolar disorder, and that his confession was obtained while he lacked access to medication.
Ghobadlou was the ninth person to be executed in connection with the 2022-2023 nationwide protests.
His execution sparked outrage and condemnation both within Iran and internationally.
