The Iranian parliament held its session on February 14 behind closed doors and voting was conducted manually, following reports of a cyberattack on its systems.

Journalists were barred from entering the chamber, with its communication department reporting "disruptions in some internal systems, including traffic, online resources and internet connectivity."

No further details about the disruptions were provided.

State media reported that "technical malfunctions" in the electronic voting system forced the parliament to revert to the traditional method of voting.

The electronic voting system was introduced a few years ago.

A hacker group affiliated with the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, an exiled opposition group that seeks to overthrow the Islamic Republic, claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the parliament on February 13.

The hackers published documents on their Telegram channel purportedly obtained through the hack.
