German airline giant Lufthansa has extended its suspension of Tehran flights until April 18.

The airline will also avoid Iranian airspace during this period, citing ongoing security concerns.

The decision follows a "careful evaluation" based on both government security assessments and Lufthansa's own intelligence.

The decision to extend the suspension follows heightened tensions in the Middle East since April 1, prompted by regional countries and the US bracing for potential Iranian retaliation following an alleged Israeli airstrike on an Iranian embassy compound in Syria.

The strike, widely attributed to Israel, targeted Iran's consulate building in Damascus, resulting in the deaths of seven Revolutionary Guards, including two senior generals.

In response, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a stern warning on Wednesday, declaring that Israel "must be punished and will be punished."

The attack represents a significant strike on Iranian targets in Syria, escalating regional tensions.

Iran's network of proxies in the region, known as "the axis of resistance," has engaged in confrontations with Israel and launched attacks on US forces and bases across the Middle East since October.
