IRGC Breaks Protocol, Summons Swiss Ambassador in Unprecedented Move

In a historic departure from protocol, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has, for the first time, summoned a foreign country's ambassador outside official government channels. 

According to an advisor to Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, Iran's Minister of Interior, the IRGC bypassed the Foreign Ministry and summoned the Swiss ambassador in Tehran to relay a message to the United States, marking an unprecedented move. 

This summoning occurred at 3:00 am on April 14, following the conclusion of the IRGC's direct missile and drone attack on Israel. 

During the summons, Mujtabi Abtahi stated that the IRGC issued warnings to the Swiss ambassador, cautioning that any American action would result in regional destruction.

This unconventional action, undisclosed by the Foreign Ministry, underscores the IRGC's independent stance and significant influence over Iran's diplomatic maneuvers. 

Summoning Nadine Lozano through a channel other than the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, typically responsible for ambassadorial communications, reflects a departure from political norms and may impact how Iran is perceived internationally. 

Traditionally, ambassadors are summoned through government channels, even in military-dominated states or during coups. 

However, the IRGC's direct involvement indicates a shift in power dynamics within Iran.

Since the severance of political ties between Iran and the US, Switzerland has represented American interests in Tehran, facilitating communication between the two nations. 

Such diplomatic exchanges usually occur through official government channels, emphasizing the government's role as the primary representative in international affairs. 

In the case of the IRGC's attack on Israel, the institution seemingly aimed to contain tensions and prevent external involvement. 

However, its unconventional approach raises questions about Iran's diplomatic strategy. 

Even if the IRGC distrusted the Foreign Ministry, involving its representatives in the summons would have upheld diplomatic decorum.
