Iranian authorities have sentenced a former agriculture minister to three years in prison on corruption charges.

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, the head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, announced the prison sentence for Javad Sadatinejad, the former minister of agricultural jihad in the Ebrahim Raisi government.

On Tuesday, in response to a question about the former Minister of Jihad Agriculture, Eje'i said: "Investigations and trials were conducted, and the said person was sentenced to three years in prison. In general, in this case, a verdict was issued for eight people, including the minister and the deputy minister."

He was referring to the case of importing livestock products, which, according to Iranian media reports, involved corruption amounting to 1,100 billion tomans ($18.3 million).

The Rouydad24 website published a report in March accusing Javad Sadatinejad of expanding the scope of corruption during his 20 months in office, stating he was involved in a corruption scandal worth 1,100 billion tomans related to imports.

Ebrahim Raisi dismissed him from his position in April last year, and subsequently, Mohammad Ali Nikbakht was appointed as the Minister of Agricultural Jihad in his place.
