A Revolutionary Court in Iran has sentenced the lawyer representing the family of executed protester Mohammad Mehdi Karami to six years in prison.

According to a report by the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) on Sunday, the sentence was recently issued by the second branch of the Karaj Revolutionary Court and communicated to lawyer Amir Hossein Kohkan.

Kohkan was convicted on charges of "assembly, collusion, and propaganda against the Islamic Republic."

The lawyer was arrested in September last year after being summoned to the Karaj Intelligence Department.

Mohammad Mahdi Karami was hanged on January 7, 2023, after they were found guilty of killing a member of the paramilitary Basij force during anti-establishment protests.

His father, Mashallah Karami, was sentenced to six years by the Revolutionary Court of Karaj on May 20. He was represented by Kohkan.

Mashallah Karami was given five years for "assembly and collusion against national security" and an additional year for "propaganda against the Islamic Republic."
