Iran has warned of legal action against anyone attempting to interfere with Iranians voting abroad in the country's presidential elections.
Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy of International Affairs of Iran's Judiciary, said that criminal cases would be filed against individuals, Iranian or non-Iranian, who obstruct the voting process "through intimidation, threats, or violence."
"A criminal case will be filed against any person who prevents Iranians from voting in the presidential elections abroad by insulting, threatening, and beating fellow countrymen and creating terror among them," Gharibabadi declared.
He emphasized that these cases would be pursued based on reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, private plaintiffs, and actions taken by public prosecutors.
Iran will hold a run-off presidential election on July 5 after neither of the top candidates secured more than 50 percent of votes in Friday's polls.
According to the final results released by the ministry, with more than 24 million people voting, moderate lawmaker Masoud Pezeshkian and hardliner Saeed Jalili qualified for the run-off election.
