Iran's acting foreign minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, has said that Tehran remains open to resuming negotiations with Washington on restoring mutual participation in the nuclear agreement.
The statement comes as Bagheri Kani prepares to address the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York.
The nuclear deal was signed in 2015 between Iran and six world powers, including the United States.
The United States, under President Donald Trump, withdrew in 2018 from the nuclear accord, which restricted Tehran's nuclear programs.
Indirect talks between the US and Iran to revive the deal have since stalled.
While Iran remains part of the agreement, it has reduced its commitments in response to US sanctions.
Bagheri Kani emphasized that while Iran is open to negotiations, it also intends to strengthen its ties with China, Russia, and neighboring nations, according to an interview published by Newsweek magazine on Tuesday.
He added that Iran would call for more significant action against Israel regarding the war in Gaza.
The Biden administration recently stated that the US is not yet ready to resume nuclear talks with Iran under the leadership of its new president.
