The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Sereen Curtis (Badiei), known as "Prince Sereen," a dual Iranian-New Zealand citizen, to more than nine years in prison.

The sentence comes as Curtis enters the fifth month of his detention in Karaj Central Prison.

Branch 3 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Karaj handed him 66 months for "inciting corruption and obscenity," 36 months for "insulting sanctities," and seven months and 16 days for "propaganda against the government."

The total sentence given to the Tehran-born man amounts to nine years, one month, and 16 days.

Additionally, Curtis faces a two-year ban on leaving the country and engaging in social media activities upon release.

Before his arrest, Custis faced criticism for his controversial videos on Islam and the Iranian government, among other content.

Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani, Curtis's lawyer, revealed that his client has bipolar disorder and has recently spent two weeks at the Roozbeh Hospital in Tehran.

Ardakani also said that Curtis brought jewelry and US dollars into Iran, which have been confiscated. This has led to financial difficulties for Curtis while in prison.

The lawyer has notified Curtis's acquaintances and the New Zealand embassy about the situation.

He was initially arrested by security forces in Karaj on March 25 this year and was later transferred to the Karaj Central Prison in June.
