Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, reacted to Donald Trump’s order to begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that such threats have “no effect” on Iran and that any military action will be met with a reciprocal response.
On Sunday, April 12, following his return from negotiations in Pakistan, Ghalibaf told reporters:
“If you fight, we will fight; and if you approach with logic, we will respond with logic.”
He further emphasized that Iran will not “yield to threats” and warned that, should attacks recur, Iran would teach the United States an “even greater lesson.”
These remarks come shortly after Trump announced that the U.S. Navy would initiate a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Referring to the negotiations with the U.S. in Islamabad, the Speaker claimed that the Iranian delegation presented “very good initiatives” to demonstrate goodwill, which he asserted led to progress in the talks.
At the same time, citing Iran’s deep-seated suspicion of the U.S., Ghalibaf stated, “Our wall of mistrust is 77 years old,” adding that Washington must take action to earn Iran’s trust. He noted that this process would be “time-consuming and difficult.”
