According to information received by IranWire, 22-year-old Ehsan Jafari, a microbiology student at Azad University, was shot at Khaju Crossroads in Kerman on January 8, 2026. He ultimately succumbed to complications from his injuries on February 8.
According to those close to him, the bullet struck his left flank, damaging his left kidney. On the first night of his hospitalization, his kidney was removed, and he underwent surgery on his intestines. The source stated that the bullet was never removed from his body and remained lodged in the fatty tissue of his lower back.
Based on this account, Jafari received treatment at Bahonar Hospital and later at Afzalipour Hospital until his final days, ultimately dying from a stomach hemorrhage and severe infection on February 8.
Ehsan Jafari’s body was transferred to the morgue on the night of February 10 and was buried on the morning of February 11 at the “Golzar Shohaday-e Boostan-e Karbala” (Karbala Park Martyrs’ Cemetery) in the northern district of Rostamizadeh. According to family members, they were required to sign a pledge promising that no slogans would be chanted in order to receive his body and hold the funeral service.
Associates stated that his medical expenses were reported to be approximately 600 million tomans. They were told that if they accepted the title of “martyr” (Shaheed) for him, these costs, along with the funeral expenses, would be waived. According to the sources, the family has been under pressure from the Martyrs Foundation to accept the martyr status even after the 40th-day memorial service.
