Explosions and air defense activity shake Tehran overnight, raising new questions about the stability of the ceasefire.

Tehran residents reported hearing explosions and air defense activity in the early hours of Thursday, April 23, more than two weeks after the ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and the Islamic Republic.

According to reports shared on social media and by the “Vahid Online” Telegram channel, people in different parts of the capital, including Pardis in eastern Tehran, heard repeated explosions during the early morning hours. Residents said the sounds were heard several times between about 2:30 AM and 4:20 AM, and that some were accompanied by the sound of air defense fire.

At the same time, reports from areas around Tehran, including Bomehen and Damavand, said air defense activity was heard widely enough to wake residents from their sleep.

In western Tehran, people also reported hearing explosions and air defense activity in areas such as Chitgar, Shahr-e Qods, and Garmdarreh. Some reports said the sounds were also heard near Qaleh Hassan Khan. According to those accounts, the sounds continued repeatedly between around 2:50 AM and 3:15 AM.

Taken together, the reports suggest that explosions were heard at the same time across both the eastern and western parts of Tehran and nearby areas, making it one of the most intense nights in recent times in terms of the frequency and severity of the blasts.

As of the time of this report, officials from the Islamic Republic, as well as the U.S. and Israeli militaries, have not provided any explanation regarding these events.
