According to information obtained by IranWire, Mahshad Keshani, a 22-year-old political prisoner, attempted to slit her wrist due to psychological pressure following her transfer to solitary confinement and was transferred to Modarres Psychiatric Hospital by Isfahan prison authorities.
An informed source told IranWire on June 8 that Keshani, who has been in detention since January last year, was transferred to solitary confinement last week despite the expiration of her prison sentence at Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan.
The source stated that Keshani was told she must remain in solitary confinement for one month. The decision was made through the intervention of Fatima Asgariyan, the head of Isfahan’s Dowlatabad Prison. Following her transfer to solitary confinement and under the resulting psychological pressure, Keshani attempted to slit her wrist. After her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Modarres Psychiatric Hospital.
Expressing deep concern over her condition, Keshani’s relatives demanded immediate attention to her situation and held judicial authorities and prison officials responsible for her health and life.
Keshani had previously been sentenced to six months of discretionary imprisonment, or Habs-e Tazir, by the First Branch of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court, presided over by Mohammad Reza Tavakoli. Following an appeal, the verdict was upheld in full by Branch 47 of the Court of Appeals, presided over by judges Dayani and Panahi.
