Fresh reports from the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) and the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) indicate that both official institutions have confirmed the persistence of inflation above 50 percent and the escalation of inflationary pressures within the Iranian economy.
According to a report by Didban Iran, although there was a noticeable discrepancy between the inflation figures reported by the Central Bank and the Statistical Center in previous years, an analysis of data from May and June shows that the estimates of the two institutions have converged. The Central Bank announced the monthly inflation rate for Ordibehesht at 8.5 per cent, while the Statistical Center reported it at 8.8 per cent - figures that rank among the highest monthly inflation rates recorded over the past year.
According to the report, the Central Bank calculated point-to-point inflation at 77.2 per cent, while the Statistical Center placed it at 83.9 per cent. Furthermore, the annual inflation rate was reported at 53.9 percent by the Central Bank and 57.7 per cent by the Statistical Center, a development that shows both official authorities are in agreement that inflation has crossed the 50 per cent threshold.
Experts believe that the limited differences between the figures reported by the two institutions stem from variations in calculation methodologies and statistical samples. The Central Bank calculates inflation indices based solely on urban households, whereas the Statistical Center includes the expenses of rural households alongside those of urban households.
Nevertheless, what stands out in the reports of both institutions is the upward trajectory of inflation in recent months. The 53.9 per cent annual inflation rate announced by the Central Bank also represents one of the highest levels recorded in recent decades, with higher rates documented only in 1942, 1943, and 2022.
The data published by the two official authorities indicates that the Iranian economy continues to face severe inflationary pressures, and the current trend signals further price increases in the coming months.
