Polish police announced that, in a major anti-narcotics operation, they seized more than one ton of heroin at the Port of Gdynia. The shipment, according to the country's authorities, originated from the Islamic Republic and was concealed inside a container carrying decorative bricks.
According to an announcement by Poland's Ministry of Interior, the seizure was carried out following initial intelligence received from British security agencies and the tracking of a suspicious shipment. Police officials described the operation as "the largest heroin seizure in more than a decade."
Reports indicate that the value of the seized cargo is estimated to be tens of millions of euros, and several Polish citizens have been arrested and face judicial prosecution in connection with the case.
Polish authorities also stated that supplementary investigations into the smuggling network and the transit route of the shipment are still ongoing.
