Iranians united on Saturday in a day of worldwide protest.

Inside the country, university students walked out of classes and joined others on the streets. There were protests in towns and cities across Iran.

This time, their voices were echoed around the world, as Iranians demonstrated in more than 150 cities around the world.

What is happening in Iranian cities?

Several videos reaching IranWire from cities in Kurdistan show the beginning of a general strike in condemnation of missile and drone attacks on Kurdish parties in the territory of the Kurdish Region of Iraq.

This video is from Marivan, where a woman is publicising the start of the strikes:

Another video obtained by IranWire shows that shops in Oshnavieh are shuttered and protesting citizens are present in the street:

The videos sent from Baneh, Piranshahr, Javanrud, Sanandaj and Saqqez, the birthplace of Mehsa Amini, also show workers are striking in these cities and the shops are closed:

In Ilam, unions condemned the missile and drone attacks on Kurdish parties in the Kurdish Region of Iraq by closing the businesses and gathering in the streets.

According to videos from Tehran, protesters barricaded the streets and chanted slogans. They appear to suggest that the number of protesters is increasing. Eyewitnesses reported heavy shooting by the security forces in Tehran, especially in the central areas.

Tehran's main bazaar also witnessed anti-government protests on October 1. In this video, the protesters talk of the need to unite the people of Iran against the government. They chant: "We will be killed one by one if we do not stand together."

Palestine street, Keshavarz Boulevard, and Jomhouri Street are among the central areas of Tehran that saw large crowds of protesters. A video of the Shariati metro station in the northern area of the city showed protesters chanting "Death to the dictator."

In the Saadat Abad neighborhood they were heard shouting "From Zahedan to Tehran, I sacrifice my life for Iran."

Disruption in the mobile internet network continues and citizens let each other know about protests in different ways. In Ahvaz, there are reports of a complete shutdown of the Internet, but a local resident was able to share the latest situation with IranWire.

"It reminds us of the stories they tell us of the first days of the revolution. Security forces stop and interrogate anyone who wants to enter the main street of Kianpars. Countless uniformed forces and special units are stationed on the 16th and 17th streets. My mother went out of the house to shop, they turned her around and said that there is a supermarket in your street and you don't need to go to the main street to shop."

In Zahedan, a day after the bloody Friday of shooting worshipers in Zahedan, the city governor announced that schools would be closed. Most businesses followed suit and shut up shop.

Protests started in the early hours of the day and continued into the evening. Authorities announced that three members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed during the suppression of protests.

Student movement in nationwide protests

Students have played an increasing role in the protests in Iran. Many joined the nationwide strikes on October 1.

In these pictures published by Mashhad Ferdowsi University, the students chanted the slogan "Political prisoners must be released" and demanded the release of the imprisoned students:

The videos received from Tehran Azad University also show the presence of a large number of students in today's gathering, who demanded the release of their friends by singing the patriotic song Yar-e Dabestani.

At Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran, students refused to attend classes by sitting on the ground in the university campus and chanting "Students die but do not accept humiliation."

Videos shared from the University of Tehran show students resisting efforts by the security forces to disperse them, shouting "Disgrace, disgrace!"

Students of Tarbiat Modares and Allameh Tabatabai universities in Tehran also joined the protests, holding rallies on campus. In a video obtained by IranWire from Allameh Tabatabai University, students chant "Justice, Freedom, Free hijab."

In a rally at Tarbiat Modares University, students chanting "Teacher, Student, Unity, Unity" called on university professors to join their protest.

As well as boycotting classes, students at Bahonar University of Kerman and Yazd International University protested on campus.

In Bahnar University in Kerman, students chanted "Zealous student, Support Support" and asked other students to join the nationwide protests:

A protest rally was held at Al-Zahra University in Tehran. Female students took off their scarves and waved them in the air, chanting "We will fight, we will die, we will take Iran back.”

At the International University of Yazd, the students sang the song "For..." composed by Shervin Hajipour who produced and performed a protest song based on the tweets of Twitter users, which led to his arrest by security agents.

Students of Zanjan University also participated in the protest rally on the university campus and chanted "Woman, Life, Freedom."

A video has been published from Karaj showing that protesting citizens joined students in the streets of the city and chanted "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, we are all together."

Male and female students at Isfahan University of Technology chanted the slogan "No headscarves, No Humiliation, Freedom, Equality."

In a video of the protest of students in Azad and Pars and the Universities of Architecture and Art in Quds Town, the students chanted "Students die but do not accept humiliation."

In addition to boycotting classes and participating in rallies, students at Razi University of Kermanshah chanted "Honorable Professor, Support, Support" and asked their professors to join them. In the past weeks, many teachers in different universities have resigned in protest against the widespread suppression of the student movement or have published statements criticizing this approach.

A video of the protest of Tabriz students at the university of this city, which reached IranWire, shows that a large number of students at this university participated in the protest:
