While the wave of arrests and summonses of football players in Iran has intensified in the recent, Mehdi Mahdavikia, a former player for Persepolis, Hamburg and Iran's national football teams, reacted on his Instagram page to the events of last night at the Sharif University of Technology.
Mehdi Mahdavikia wrote on his Instagram: "For several decades, by suppressing students and beating them, you have made Iran's elites and capital flee [the country]. Important posts are in the hands of illiterate people … and this brought the country to where we are now."
Mehdi Mahdavikia, who was selected as one of the best 11 players of the last century in Hamburg, added: "At least have the courage to wear a uniform so that people know where your budget comes from and who you take orders from.”
