A human rights group have raised alarm over the fate of a 16-years old Kurdish girl suspected by the Iranian authorities of "waging war against God," a charge that carries a death sentence.

Sonia Sharifi was arrested in mid-November by agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ (IRGC) intelligence agency during protests in the western town of Abdanan.

The France-based Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported on December 15 that interrogators forced Sonia to confess to making Molotov cocktails and writing slogans against the country’s clerical regime.

The General and Revolutionary Prosecutor's office in Abdanan has not provided any information about the case to the family, and the suspect has been deprived of having a lawyer, the group said.

Many children have joined the nationwide wave of protests sparked by the September 16 death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, in the custody of Tehran’s morality police.

The security forces have cracked down hard on the demonstrations, killing at least 458 people, including 63 children, according to the Norway-based Iran Human Rights group. At least 18,000 people have reportedly been arrested.

According to information gathered by IranWire, at least 28 people involved in the demonstrations have been handed capital punishment. Iran carried out the first execution on December 8 after a grossly unfair trial, followed by a second one four days later.

The demonstrations and state clampdown have been particularly intense in the country’s western Kurdish areas and Sistan and Baluchistan, home to a Sunni Baluch minority.
