U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with a Fox News correspondent on Sunday, April 19, announced that Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are traveling to Islamabad as his envoys to hold meetings with Iranian government negotiators beginning Tuesday and likely continuing through Wednesday.
According to the reporter, in the 20-minute conversation, Trump described the Islamabad talks as the Iranian regime's "last chance." He warned that if a deal is not signed, "the whole country will be destroyed," and that bridges and power plants would be targeted.
Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst also reported that, according to Trump, the current U.S. proposal includes the "reopening of the Strait of Hormuz" and an end to the Islamic Republic’s access to high-enriched uranium. He added that the U.S. President emphasized that this deal is "very simple" and that he does not intend to repeat what he described as the mistake made by Barack Obama.
Simultaneously, ABC News, citing the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, reported that Vice President JD Vance will lead the U.S. delegation for the second round of negotiations in Islamabad.
Trump had previously announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, that his representatives would be in Islamabad for negotiations "tomorrow night," which, in Iranian time, corresponds to Tuesday morning, April 21. Referring to the U.S. offer as "fair and reasonable," he once again threatened that if Iran does not accept the proposal, the United States will target "all power plants and all bridges in Iran."
