Prominent Iranian political prisoner Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraei has been sentenced to seven years in prison and banned from leaving the country for two years on charges of "gathering and collusion" and “propaganda against the regime."

On April 13, the Tehran Revolutionary Court also banned Iraei from staying in Tehran after her release and from joining political parties or any other groups for two years, according to the Norway-based human rights group Hengaw.

Her mobile phone was confiscated.

Under Iran's sentencing guidelines, Iraei will have to serve six years of his prison sentence if the ruling is upheld on appeal.

Iraei, a life-long campaigner for human rights, was subjected to beatings and other ill-treatment during her arrest in Tehran on September 26, which came amid nationwide protests calling for more freedoms and women’s rights.

She was transferred to the women's ward of Tehran’s Evin prison on November 29 and was denied temporary leave because she refused to write a "letter of repentance."

Iraei has previously been arrested and sentenced to prison for her activism.
