The Islamic Republic’s judiciary has sentenced a Kurdish political prisoner to death on sedition charges, Kurdish human rights activists reported on September 8.
The sentence against Yussef Ahmadi was handed down by the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj on September 3, according to the Norway-based Hengaw group, which monitors rights violations in Iran's Kurdish regions.
Ahmadi was arrested in April 2020 along with three other residents of Baneh, Kurdistan province: Mohammad Karimi, Baset Karimi and Mohammad Faizi.
The four men were accused of "collaborating" with a Kurdish opposition party.
Mohammad Karimi was sentenced to 25 years in prison, while Baset Karimi and Mohammad Faizi were handed 20-year prison sentences.
Reports suggest that the four men were subjected to torture aimed at extracting confessions.
They were also denied the right to legal representation during their three years and four months of pre-trial detention.
