Authorities in Iran's notorious Evin Prison have transferred political prisoner Hossein Razzaq to the general ward, a day after violently beating him in Ward 209, used for political prisoners, and overseen by the Ministry of Intelligence.

Razzaq had suffered a severe beating at the hands of several intelligence agents, while his hands and feet were shackled behind his back, sources told IranWire.

Despite being aware of his numerous medical conditions, the agents left him lying for several hours in one of the units of Ward 209.

Following his return to the general ward, the lingering effects of this assault were documented at the Evin Prison clinic.

In a separate incident, Navid Mihandoost, an imprisoned director, said in a letter that Faramarz Javidzad, a Jewish inmate who had previously requested medical attention from prison health authorities, died on September 23 after a prolonged decline in his physical condition.

Access to medical treatment within prisons is a fundamental right of detainees, which has consistently been violated in the prisons of the Islamic Republic.

Over the course of four decades under the rule of the Islamic Republic, a significant number of inmates have lost their lives due to the denial of this right.

Legally, the responsibility for these deaths rests with the prison authorities, the prison organization, and the judiciary.
