A Revolutionary Court of the Islamic Republic in the northwestern city of Mahabad has sentenced a Kurdish man to 13 years in prison.

According to a report by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mohammad-Taher Hosseinpour, a 31-year-old resident of Naqadeh, has been charged with "waging war Against God" for his alleged affiliation with and support for a Kurdish political party.

He was arrested on August 23, 2023, at his house in Naqadeh.

After being held for 40 days at a detention center, Hosseinpour was transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison.

Previously, he had been detained by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence forces in Naqadeh in August 2021 and subsequently transferred to a detention facility in Urmia.

Later, in September 2021, he was moved to Naqadeh Central Prison after receiving a 15-month sentence for alleged involvement with a Kurdish opposition party and participation in street protests sparked by the killing of a civilian by security forces in August.

After several months in custody, Hosseinpour was granted temporary release in April 2022 and discharged from Naqadeh Central Prison.
