Political prisoner Jamal Ameli, currently serving a one-year sentence in Ward 8 of Tehran's notorious Evin Prison, is being denied essential medical care despite his deteriorating health condition, according to a source close to his family.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that Ameli suffers from an autoimmune disease, and he has been refused access to necessary medications and regular doctor visits.

The neglect has reportedly led to spinal complications and other health issues related to his condition.

"Mr. Ameli's lack of access to new tests and continuous treatment has resulted in more skin wounds and other severe problems," the source said.

The situation has heightened concerns among Ameli's relatives regarding his physical well-being.

Ameli, a Tehran resident, began serving his sentence on April 6 after reporting to the Evin Prosecutor's Office.

Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court convicted him in February last year. He faced charges of "assembly and collusion to commit a crime against national security" and "propaganda against the Islamic Republic."

He has a history of arrests and judicial proceedings related to his activities, including a previous arrest on October 30, 2012.
