Alireza Mardasi, a 45-year-old teacher and political detainee, continues to face legal uncertainty and inadequate medical treatment in Sheiban Prison of Ahvaz more than a year after his arrest.
The detained educator suffers from a lung condition and has been denied access to specialized medical care and transfer to outside medical facilities.
Mardasi, a father of one and resident of Ahvaz with over two decades of teaching experience at the elementary level, was arrested by Iran's security forces on August 1, 2023.
He was subsequently charged with "spreading corruption on Earth" and "membership in a rebellious group," which are serious allegations in the Iranian legal system.
Despite the severity of the charges, Mardasi has yet to face a court trial, leaving him in legal limbo for more than 12 months.
"Mr. Mardasi suffers from a lung condition and has been deprived of specialized medical care and transfer to medical facilities," according to the HRANA human rights organization.
