The Islamic Republic’s Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence of Mojahid Korkur, a prisoner in Sheiban Prison, and referred his case to a parallel branch for retrial.
Korkur was sentenced to death in April 2023 by Branch 1 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court on charges of “waging war against God and corruption on Earth.”
The court accused him of involvement in the killing of Kian Pirfalak, a child killed during the 2022 protests.
However, Kian’s family has consistently denied these allegations, with his mother stating that security forces opened fire on their car.
Korkur’s arrest was reported in mid-December 2022.
In June 2023, security agents raided the home of Korkur’s family and arrested his sister, Negar.
During the arrest, officers showed Korkur a video of his sister and warned him: “We will bring the disaster you fear to your sister.”
This video caused immense mental and emotional distress to Korkur, leading to his first suicide attempt.
Following this incident, prison authorities allowed his parents to visit him. During their visit, Korkur “pleaded” with his parents to tell him the “truth” about Negar, according to sources close to the family.
Afterward, his parents reported a significant deterioration in his mental and physical health.
Korkur’s alleged victims in Izeh on November 16, 2022, include Kian Pirfalak, a nine-year-old boy who was shot while in his parents’ car.
However, Kian’s father, Meysem Pirfalak, who partially recovered from injuries sustained in the same shooting, released a video refuting Korkur’s involvement in his son’s death.
“My wife and I witnessed firsthand the security forces… firing at our car, injuring me and killing my son,” he said.
