Political prisoner Golrokh Iraee has warned about the increase in execution sentences from Evin Prison, particularly highlighting the case of Hamid Hoseinnejad.

In a letter, Iraee addressed Hoseinnejad's imminent execution and society’s silence regarding ongoing death sentences.

“We have become numb to execution orders. We look on. A sigh, a regret. Sometimes eyes fill with tears - but we easily make excuses to calm our conscience,” she wrote.

Iraee criticized “the inaction of execution opponents behind their safe phones” and stated, “To end the cycle of systematic killing, which is one of the pillars of the Islamic Republic, we must line up outside prisons and shout ‘no to execution’ face-to-face with the dictator.”

She condemned society’s indifference to recent executions, including the execution of 21 Baluch citizens in a single week.

“We prove that even if their dawns begin with thousands of gallows, we will not stand in their way,” Iraee wrote.

She added, “We, the awakened consciences of the virtual space who boast in our poems and slogans, have become numb to the regime’s killings.”

Iran executed at least 169 people in January and February, according to Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran.

During her first presentation to the UN Human Rights Council, Sato warned that if the current pace continues, Iran could carry out more than 1,000 executions this year.

“I am very concerned about the rapid rise in the number of executions, especially in just the last two months,” Sato told IranWire in an exclusive interview following her presentation.

“I believe, looking at last year’s patterns, January and February are usually quiet months, but we’ve already identified at least 169 executions,” she added.
