More than 200 political prisoners at Evin Prison have refused food to protest the beating and transfer of several inmates to unknown locations.
Mehdi Mahmoudian, a former political prisoner, wrote on the social media platform X on Monday that the protest began after prison guards beat Ehsan Afrashteh, a prisoner sentenced to death, and transferred him, along with Behzad Panahi and Mehdi Fareed, to undisclosed locations.
Mahmoudian said the protest is expected to intensify on Tuesday as part of ongoing demonstrations known as “No to Execution Tuesdays.”
According to him, Evin Prison guards attacked the ward where Afrashteh was held and severely beat him before taking him away.
He added that Afrashteh was seen calling for help, with his head and face covered in blood.
Mahmoudian said guards beat him while closing the doors to other halls.
He said other prisoners chanted slogans against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as judicial and prison officials, condemning what they described as violent and inhumane treatment.
