A 21-year-old named Erfan Rezaei is among the people confirmed to have been killed during protests in northern Iran on Wednesday.
The young man from Amol, Mazandaran province, died on Wednesday evening during fierce clashes between people and security forces in front of the governor’s office.
Footage from the scene shows uniformed officers shooting directly at protesters, while parts of the building were on fire. Elsewhere in the city videos have been published showing armed officers being chased away by citizens.
A source close to events told IranWire that as of Friday, Erfan’s body had yet to be released to his family. At least 36 people are so far known to have been killed since protests erupted over the death of Mahsa Amini last week.
