Tehran residents woke up to a blanket of snow earlier this week, as the Iranian capital was hit by a rare snowstorm. The snowfall and cold weather caused widespread disruption to transportation and other services and led to a shortage of natural gas, forcing the authorities to close schools, government offices and private businesses in Tehran and other parts of Iran. This is a selection of pictures of streets in northern Tehran, with residents trying to cope with the thick snow and freezing weather.
